We encourage all pregnant and parenting students to connect with support services on campus. Case Management and Victim Support Services (CMVSS) serves as the primary source of support for Tulane students navigating pregnancy and parenthood. CMVSS can provide support while coordinating any benefits, services, and leave that a student may need. To connect with CMVSS for support, benefits, services, or leave related to pregnancy and childbirth, please complete the Student Childbirth and Pregnancy Request Form. You can also visit CMVSS in Lavin-Bernick Center G02 Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5 pm, or contact them at srss@tulane.edu or 504-314-2160. Please note: CMVSS is a private resource, meaning that conversations with this office are kept as private as possible, but information may be shared with other Tulane staff to ensure that the student receives the support they need. Private resources will coordinate with you on when to disclose to your program.
Tulane also offers the following resources that pregnant and parenting students may benefit from:
Medical and Mental Health Resources
Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) is a confidential resource offering comprehensive therapeutic services, including individual and group therapy, psychiatry services and medication management, and referrals for off-campus services. Please note that most degree-seeking students (those who have paid the University’s Campus Health Fee) are eligible to access services from CAPS; learn more about the Campus Health access fee. All currently enrolled students, regardless of whether they have paid the Campus Health access fee, may utilize an initial consultation, Care Coordination for off-campus referrals, and crisis support services through CAPS. CAPS has Uptown and Downtown locations and can be reached at 504-314-2277 Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5 pm.
Limited medical services, including birth control and pregnancy testing, can be accessed at the Health Center for Student Care. Like the Counseling Center, students are eligible to access these services if they have paid the Campus Health access fee. Pregnant students who have the Tulane-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (T-SHIP) can work with Campus Health’s referral coordinator to connect with off-campus medical providers. However, please note that if you have T-SHIP, you are not required to get a Health Center referral for maternity, obstetrical or gynecological care.
Parental Support
In support of members of our community who are parenting, Tulane offers childcare centers on the uptown and downtown campuses. The HRIS website also includes a Breastfeeding Back to Work checklist that is tailored to employees but may also be helpful to students, particularly those with on-campus jobs. Finally, pregnant and parenting students may benefit from Tulane’s Nap Map, which compiles the best napping locations on campus, and Tulane’s Campus Map, which allows you to filter for all-gender restrooms.
Lactation Spaces
In support of members of our community who are lactating, Tulane maintains lactation/family rooms on the Uptown and Downtown campuses. You can learn more about these rooms and find a list of locations on the Campus Lactation/Family Rooms page on the HRIS website. Additionally, you can view a map of lactation spaces here.
